Polish club reveal who Hull City's new sporting director will be

Okan Ozkan’s former club have confirmed he will be Hull City's new sporting director.

He replaces Jared Dublin, who left the Premier League's newest club in Monday after what is thought to have been a disagreement over a new contract.

The Tigers have wasted no time in finding a replacement.

And although they are yet to confirm Ozkan's appointment, Pogon Szczecin have.

Ozkan joined the Polish club from Fenerbahce late last year.

"Pogoń Szczecin SA informs that Okan Ozkan, who has served in our club as the director of the scouting and recruitment department, has accepted an offer to take on the role of sporting director at Hull City AFC, a team competing in the English Premier League," they said in a statement.

"Okan will become the first sporting director to move directly to the Premier League from a Polish club. This is not only an important step in his career but also confirmation of the high competence, professionalism, and quality of the individuals shaping the structures of Pogon Szczecin.

"During his time working in our club, Okan played a key role in building the scouting and recruitment department and co-creating the sporting strategy. His dedication significantly contributed to establishing solid organisational foundations and implementing the long-term vision for the sporting development of Pogon Szczecin.

"The board of Pogon Szczecin SA thanks Okan for his work, commitment, and contribution to the development of our club. We wish him success and many achievements in this new chapter of his career at Hull City."

The lack of announcement from Hull, whose communications are of a high level as you might expect of a club owned by media mogul Acun Ilicali, suggests there are still details to be ironed out, but that Ozkan should soon be in position.

So far, Hull have only made one signing in what is likely to be a significant upgrade of the squad that won the Championship play-offs in May.

Spending was held up by financial fair play rules, with Hull having to make a £6m profit in the opening weeks of the transfer window to avoid an overspend for the period 2023 to 2026. But they achieved that by June 30, the end of the last accounting year, and are now in a position to start spending their Premier League riches.
