Hull City target seals club-record transfer move to Premier League

Striker Emersonn has completed a move to Ipswich Town, becoming the club's record signing after the Premier League newboys paid an initial £24m to sign him from Toulouse.

That £24m could rise to more than £26m with a variety of add-ons, and surpasses the £20m-plus deals Ipswich sealed to sign Jaden Philogene and Omari Hutchinson following their last promotion to the top flight.

Hull City had seen their own offers for the highly-rated Brazilian turned down by French side Toulouse, and it's understood they eventually baulked at the asking price for the 21-year-old, who scored six goals in Ligue 1 last term.

The forward only joined Toulouse last summer, after arriving from Turkish Super Lig side Goztepe in a deal thought to be worth in the region of £2.5m.

“I am very proud to sign for Ipswich Town," the youngster said after penning a five-year deal at Portman Road. “Playing in the Premier League is something I have always dreamed of and I know I have picked the perfect club to do that with.

“I will give everything for the team every time I play and I can’t wait to get started and meet my new teammates as well as the supporters.”

City's attentions have turned elsewhere with the club working on a flurry of deals in a bid to bolster Sergej Jakirovic's squad ahead of the new top-flight campaign.

Meanwhile, ex-City favourite Philogene, whose performances caught the imagination at the MKM Stadium under Liam Rosenior, has been linked with a move away from Portman Road. The 24-year-old is now represented by Team Raiola, the organisation that carries the name of the late super agent Mino Raiola, who passed away in April 2022.
