Aston Villa eyeing move to sign £76m Champions League striker for Emery - report

Aston Villa are looking to strengthen their squad ahead of a return to the Champions League next season, and have set their sights on a new striker.

The Villans finished fourth in the Premier League in 2025/26 to return to Europe's top competition, while they also ended a 30-year trophy drought by winning the Europa League with a 3-0 win over Freiburg.

The club are dealing with financial constraints which have so far stopped them doing business in the transfer window, but it has now emerged that they have entered the race for a new forward to help Unai Emery have a stronger team for the new campaign.

According to French journalist Sebastien Denis, Aston Villa are 'in the mix' to complete a deal for Paris Saint-Germain striker Randal Kolo Muani this summer.

The France international, who signed for the reigning European champions in a deal worth in excess of £76m back in 2023, spent last season on loan at Tottenham Hotspur and struggled to make an impact as they finished 17th, which saw the north London club opt against making the move permanent.

A return to Juventus had looked to be on the cards in recent times, with Kolo Muani enjoying a fine loan spell there in the second half of the 2024/25 season, but that has now stalled, and PSG have opened the door to other clubs to get a deal done.

PSG had given Juventus exclusivity in negotiations to get a deal done, but they have grown frustrated by Juventus' slow progress. Villa are among the clubs who have now stepped up their interest in the forward.

The Ligue 1 outfit would prefer a permanent sale to get him off their books, but there is the possibility that he could leave on loan once again. In fact, Juventus' deal was reportedly a loan with a buy option worth €40m (£34m), and Villa could look to replicate that formula to get him into the Midlands.

Aston Villa Move for Kolo Muani Would Be Odd

While bringing in new forward options is a necessity for Villa this summer amid the departures of Evann Guessand and Jadon Sancho, while Leon Bailey is also expected to leave and Morgan Rogers has been linked, Kolo Muani would still be a weird signing.

He has shown glimpses of his quality during his time at Frankfurt and Juventus, but while at Tottenham he was largely awful and it looked like the Premier League simply wasn't for him.

Emery has an excellent track record when it comes to signings, and he knows how to get the best out of players who have underperformed elsewhere, so this could be an interesting deal to keep an eye on.
