Manchester United have renewed contact over a potential summer deal for Borussia Dortmund star Julian Ryerson, according to BILD.
The Red Devils were linked with the Norway international earlier this year, and they have revived their pursuit after his World Cup performances.
Erling Haaland has been Norway’s main attraction at the tournament, but Ryerson has likewise impressed with his contributions from the right-back spot.
The 28-year-old almost shut down Brazil’s Vinicius Junior, and BILD claim that the Red Devils are now chasing the signature of the Norwegian ace.
Dortmund would ideally prefer to keep him, but the lack of progress in contract talks could mean he could be sold by the Bundesliga heavyweights.
The German club are holding out for £26 million for a potential transfer.
Man Utd may not pursue deal for Ryerson after Mazraoui’s excellence
Ryerson was brilliant as a right wing-back for Dortmund last season. He registered a sublime tally of 18 assists from 42 games for the Bundesliga giants.
He has operated as a right-back for Norway at the World Cup. Ryerson picked up a thigh injury against Senegal early on, but recovered in time to face Brazil in the round of 16.
Ryerson played just over an hour but was effective in many facets. He won three duels with four recoveries and also completed an impressive 93 percent of his passes.
United scouts may have watched him in action, but we don’t believe the Red Devils will make an approach for him unless they are contemplating Noussair Mazraoui’s exit.
Mazraoui has been the immediate deputy for Diogo Dalot at right-back, but he has shown a different side of his game for Morocco, operating from the left-back position this summer.
The former Bayern Munich man has won 74 percent of his duels at the World Cup with 3.4 tackles per game. Mazraoui has been brilliant with his distribution and physical presence too.
He has looked a player reborn playing for the national side, and United would no doubt want a similar version of him next season. In our view, Mazraoui must not be sold by the club.
Without him leaving, a deal for Ryerson may not happen.
