Newcastle United complete £65m double transfer swoop - plus fourth summer signing warning

Newcastle United transfers: The Magpies are set to confirm their third summer signing - but who will be next through the door?

Newcastle United are pushing to sign more players after a quickfire £65million double transfer swoop.

This week has seen Newcastle complete a £42million move for Bazoumana Toure from Hoffenheim and strike a £23million deal with Ajax for Sean Steur.

The youngsters will join up with Newcastle’s first team squad for pre-season training early next week - but will there be any more players through the door by then?

NUFC pushing to sign Johan Manzambi?

The player on a lot of people’s lips at the moment is Freiburg and Switzerland midfielder, Johan Manzambi. The 20-year-old has been enjoying a fine World Cup with Switzerland with three goals and two assists before missing the last-16 clash with Colombia due to an injury.

With Switzerland still in the World Cup and facing Argentina in the quarter-finals on Sunday morning (2am BST kick-off), Manzambi’s focus will be on getting back to fitness for the match.

Newcastle have been heavily linked with the player and certainly admire him. It has also been reported elsewhere that Manzambi himself is keen to make the move to St James’ Park, though the club thought the same regarding Victor Munoz before being gazumped by Liverpool.

And that’s where the caution comes in. Newcastle’s deals for Toure and Steur were effectively already agreed before news broke in the media.

The manner in which Newcastle’s interest in Manzambi has been dragged out, given interest from elsewhere, is understood to have led to some doubts over whether a deal will actually come to fruition. The player is valued at around £50million by Freiburg and Newcastle have been described as ‘leading the race’ for his signature.

But with the likes of Manchester United also lurking and interest from various clubs elsewhere amid a strong World Cup display, nothing is certain just yet.

Newcastle will make a move for Manzambi as a priority, but Gazette sources have relayed caution rather than optimism that this one comes to fruition.

Either way, the club are continuing to push for signings and get their business done with the hope of having a settled squad in time for the Premier League 2026/27 season opener against Liverpool at St James’ Park on August 23 (4:30pm BST kick-off).
