Newcastle United transfers: Antonio Cordero is set for a swift return to Spain after spending last season out on loan.
Newcastle United winger Antonio Cordero is set for another loan spell at a familiar club.
The 19-year-old winger joined Newcastle following his release from Malaga last summer but was quickly loaned out to Westerlo in Belgium. His frustrating spell was cut short by the Magpies, who then loaned him to Spanish second-tier side Cadiz.
A spell back in his home country at a club he previously represented at academy level was thought to help Cordero get back to his best levels.
And his loan spell back in Spain proved to be a positive one in the end as he scored a crucial brace in a 2-2 relegation battle draw against Cultural Leonesa. He then scored in a 3-0 win over Leganes a few weeks later as Cadiz confirmed survival with a game to spare.
Now, Cadiz have agreed a new loan deal to sign Cordero until the end of the 2026/27 campaign. Rather than get an opportunity to impress at Newcastle during pre-season, the young Spaniard will return to familiar surroundings once again.
The decision comes on the back of Newcastle signing 20-year-old winger Bazoumana Toure from Hoffenheim for £42million.
Farewell message
Reflecting on his initial loan spell at Cadiz, Cordero expressed his love and gratitude towards the club.

“Thank you for every moment lived with this club, its fans and these colours,” Cordero wrote. “You guys are amazing and have been there through it all, through the good and the bad. It is an honour to defend this shield and share so many moments with you. Cadiz will always have a place in my heart.”
