Matias Soulé transfer update emerges as Crystal Palace trump Sunderland and Newcastle to free…

Sunderland have been linked with Matias Soulé and Oscar Mingueza, but fresh updates have now emerged on both players

Sunderland continue to be linked with potential attacking additions this summer, with Roma playmaker Matias Soulé among the latest names to emerge.

The Argentine has been mentioned in connection with the Black Cats in recent hours, though reports in Italy suggest the current level of interest has not yet developed into anything advanced.

According to the latest update, Sunderland’s interest is described as a “timid investigation” at this stage, with no negotiations currently underway for the 22-year-old. Soulé is also said to have little intention of considering offers at this point of the window, though the picture could change later in the summer if Roma make a major signing in his position.

That leaves Sunderland, for now, watching on rather than actively progressing a deal. The Black Cats have been active in the market and are expected to continue assessing opportunities as they prepare for a significant Premier League and European campaign under Régis Le Bris.

Soulé joined Roma from Juventus last summer after impressing during a productive loan spell at Frosinone. A technically gifted left-footed attacker, he has long been regarded as one of the more exciting young attacking talents in Serie A.

Sunderland’s recruitment model has regularly focused on young, high-upside players with room to grow, though any move for Soulé would appear complicated given his current stance and Roma’s position. Elsewhere, Crystal Palace are reportedly set to win the race for former Sunderland-linked defender Oscar Mingueza.

The Spanish international has been linked with a number of clubs in recent months, including Sunderland, Newcastle United, Arsenal, Aston Villa, Everton and Fulham. However, according to Graeme Bailey, Mingueza is now heading to Crystal Palace on a free transfer after holding talks with a host of sides.
