Negotiations underway for Brighton exit – Confirmation of talks happening

Paris FC remain in contact with Brighton and Hove Albion to try and keep Diego Coppola at the club next season.

Journalist Gianluigi Longari reports that the French side are working to reach a deal for the 22-year-old to sign permanently.

Brighton talks ongoing

Diego Coppola spent the second half of last season on loan at Paris FC after struggling for game time at Brighton following his move in July last year.

A return this summer did not initially appear to be on the cards. Indeed, Sport Witness have covered various reports about a potential return to Italy being on the cards instead.

But journalist Gianluigi Longari reported at the end of June that Paris FC we reworking with Brighton on a permanent transfer. He insisted at that point that the French side were the hottest lead despite Lazio’s interest in him. The Italian side had also tested the waters at that point.

Now he adds to that report, providing ‘confirmations’ on contacts between Paris and Brighton regarding Diego Coppola. They want to see the defender stay at the club this summer. And now the French side are working to reach a deal to make that happen.

What do Brighton want?

The question is what type of deal Brighton will be willing to sanction. They have already shown a willingness to do deals this summer. Reports have indicated they’ll allow Igor Julio to leave on loan so he can revalue himself.

That is perhaps a route they could take with Coppola too. Sanction another loan deal to allow him to revalue himself and then, perhaps, secure a permanent move next summer.

Alternatively, a loan deal with an obligation to buy or a purchase clause could suit both parties. That is something for both sides to now work out, with negotiations underway following the defender’s loan deal last season.
