Aurelien Tchouameni has reportedly agreed a new contract with Real Madrid, despite interest from Manchester United.

Tchouameni, 26, is said to be extending his stay in the Spanish capital for another five years. News about the France international's future came out within hours of United agreeing a £50million deal with Chelsea for Andrey Santos.

The midfielder is one of several options that the club have monitored this summer. That list includes Alex Scott, Carlos Baleba, Felix Nmecha and Sander Berge, as well as Ederson, who is due to have a medical now that Brazil are out of the World Cup.

It is unclear whether signing Santos would have ended any interest in Tchouameni. United wanted to sign multiple midfielders this summer, even before Manuel Ugarte sustained an injury during the World Cup.

That blow could force them to recruit a third, with Kobbie Mainoo currently being their only fit central midfielder. The club were priced out of moves for Elliot Anderson and Mateus Fernandes.

RMC Sport reports that Tchouameni wanted to stay at Madrid under Jose Mourinho, even after receiving solicitations from other clubs, notably United.

Despite some suggestions that the La Liga club could cash in on the former Monaco midfielder, it is said that agreeing a new contract for him was a priority.

The apparent agreement comes within a month of Mourinho returning to Madrid as their new head coach. The Portuguese boss ultimately decided to keep hold of Tchouameni, while they have made four signings this summer.

Only one of those arriving is a midfielder, though, and Bernardo Silva is not someone who will compete directly with Tchouameni for a place in the team.

Madrid also publicly denied having any interest in Enzo Fernandez. They released a club statement about their reported interest.

It read: "In light of the information and statements that have emerged in recent days regarding an alleged interest from Real Madrid C. F. in the player Enzo Fernández, the club wishes to state that it has not made any efforts, either directly or indirectly, aimed at signing the aforementioned player and, furthermore, has no intention of pursuing such an operation.

"Real Madrid wishes to express its utmost respect for Enzo Fernández, a great footballer whose career and quality are widely recognised, as well as for Chelsea FC, a club with which it maintains an excellent institutional relationship.

"Precisely out of respect for an institution like Chelsea FC and the principles of institutional loyalty that have always guided Real Madrid's actions, the club considers it necessary to categorically deny these speculations, which are unfounded and do not reflect reality.

"Real Madrid regrets that, despite the clarity of the facts and the absence of any action by the club, information continues to be disseminated that does not correspond to reality and only serves to create confusion among fans and unnecessarily harm the entities and individuals involved."
