War of words between Hull City owner Acun Ilicali and Pogoń Szczecin chief escalates

The social media war of words between Hull City owner Acun Ilicali and Pogoń Szczecin chief Alex Haditaghi has continued to escalate in recent hours.

Haditaghi had threatened City with legal action over the club's decision to approach Okan Özkan to replace Jared Dublin as the Tigers' new sporting director, going public with his annoyance after the club released a glowing statement confirming the 35-year-old's departure.

Ilicali responded by claiming the former Fenerbahce transfer man had grounds to escape his contract in Poland over a failure to pay his salary.

A furious Haditaghi responded with a lengthy monologue, threatening Ilicali, Acun Media, Hull City and Özkan with a flurry of legal action, whilst copying in the Football Association and Premier League into his rant on social media.

"Acun, it shocks and surprises me when successful public figures like you act with such reckless judgment and idiocy, placing themselves, their club, and their organisation in such a vulnerable legal position," he wrote in a long rant on X. "Your public statement is 100% false, reckless, and defamatory toward Pogoń Szczecin, our organisation, and the people involved.

"The claim that Mr. Özkan lawfully terminated his contract with Pogoń Szczecin for “just cause” due to alleged non-payment of salary is a complete lie and is categorically denied. Your allegation is fabricated, damaging, and clearly intended to harm the reputation and business interests of our club for your own and your club’s benefit. You, Mr. Özkan, Acun Media, and Hull City are now on formal legal notice that Pogoń Szczecin and I have instructed counsel and are pursuing all available legal remedies in Poland, the European Union, the United Kingdom, and any other applicable jurisdiction.

"This includes claims arising from inducement of breach, unlawful interference, breach of contract, tortious interference, slander, reputational damage, and defamation. Making false public allegations about a professional football club, its business, or its people carries serious legal consequences. I will make sure you are all held fully accountable for it. We will pursue this matter firmly, fully, and without hesitation."

Ilicali then had another retort on Thursday, in a post that was seemingly aimed at his opposite number in Poland, as the very public spat continued.

"It seems like there are some deluded opportunists around, trying to threaten people to go to court and make money out of it. Don't be afraid to put them in their place, especially when they are lying and trying to get money out of you," he wrote, before signing off with a smiley face emoji.
