Expensive problem for Man Utd: Dream move for 28yo star poised to collapse after fresh transfer …

Manchester United star Marcus Rashford may have to forget about his dream return to Barcelona.

According to several reports, Barcelona want to sign Borussia Dortmund star Karim Adeyemi.

The German international is entering the final year of his contract and has reportedly made it clear that he has no intention of signing an extension.

Rashford spent the 2025-26 season with the Catalan giants, bagging 24 goal contributions in 49 games across all competitions.

The Blaugrana had the option to buy him for £26 million but surprisingly allowed the clause to expire before signing Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United for £69m instead.

Should Adeyemi complete his switch to Camp Nou, Barcelona’s interest in bringing Rashford back could disappear altogether.

The 24-year-old offers tremendous versatility, capable of operating on the right wing as well as in central attacking roles.

The La Liga giants already possess an abundance of wide attacking talent in Lamine Yamal, Anthony Gordon and Raphinha.

With that in mind, signing both Adeyemi and Rashford in the same transfer window appears increasingly unlikely.

Instead, the Spanish champions could prioritise recruiting a natural centre-forward capable of succeeding Robert Lewandowski.

Rashford remains fully focused on international duty with England as the Three Lions prepare for a huge FIFA World Cup quarter-final against Norway.

Once his World Cup campaign concludes, the forward is expected to report back to Carrington.

Although United are prepared to reintegrate the 28-year-old into the squad, they remain open to listening to suitable offers for a permanent transfer later in the window.

One of the biggest problems for INEOS is justifying his enormous £320,000-per-week salary.
