Former Premier League ace training with Rotherham United

A FORMER Manchester United defender is training with Rotherham United during the early stages of the club's pre-season programme.

Brandon Williams came through the youth ranks at Old Trafford and looked set for a bright future as he made the Red Devils' first team and also had impressive loan spells with Norwich City and Ipswich Town.

However, his progress has stalled in the last couple of seasons and he is a free agent after parting company in February with Hull City during their Championship promotion campaign.

He may feature for the Millers in their opening summer friendly tomorrow night against non-league Parkgate at Roundwood.

New head of football Steve McClaren - who was Sir Alex Ferguson's number two at the Red Devils - has obvious Manchester United connections and is giving the left-back, now aged 25, an opportunity with Rotherham.

Williams made more than 50 appearances during Ole Gunnar Solskjær's managerial reign, playing in the Premier League, Champions League and Europa League.

He went on loan for the 2021/22 campaign to Norwich City, who were then in the top flight, and featured in 29 games. That was followed by a spell in the Championship with Ipswich Town in 2023/24 when he racked up 17 outings before his stay in East Anglia was cut short by personal and injury issues.

A permanent move to Hull last term didn't work out and he left them in February following just one appearance.

He has been with the Millers since they returned for pre-season training late last month as he bids to get his career back on track.
