Manchester United are close to sealing another transfer after agreeing on a deal for Chelsea midfielder Andrey Santos.
United will pay a £50 million fee for the Brazilian, who has also agreed personal terms.
The Athletic now report that United are close to completing the transfer of goalkeeper Karl Darlow on a free transfer.
There are still some details to be ironed out, but it is believed that the deal is at an advanced stage.
United are aiming to sign a new goalkeeper to provide cover for first-choice Senne Lammens. They have identified Darlow as a target after his brilliant spell with Leeds United last term.
If the deal goes through, the 35-year-old is expected to join on a free transfer after his contract expired last month.
Darlow could be a good signing for United
Darlow became Leeds’ first-choice goalkeeper in January, replacing Lucas Perri.
The Wales international impressed, helping Leeds escape relegation. He featured in 22 Premier League matches, conceding 27 goals and keeping five clean sheets.
Only seven goalkeepers averaged more saves per game than Darlow in the division.
Among goalkeepers in Europe’s top seven leagues, the Welshman ranked in the 73rd percentile for save percentage.
He ranked in the 69th percentile for PSxG-GA, a metric that measures the number of goals a goalkeeper prevents through shot-stopping compared with an average goalkeeper facing the same shots.
The former Leeds star is also comfortable with the ball, ranking in the 70th percentile for passes completed and 95th percentile for long passes completed.
Darlow is also comfortable coming off his line to intercept passes, highlighting his proactive style of goalkeeping.
His arrival would pave the way for Altay Bayindir’s departure. He has been linked with Besiktas, but the interest has cooled.
