Manchester United have been surprisingly linked with a move for Nottingham Forest defender Neco Williams this summer.
According to BBC Sport, Manchester United have registered an interest in Neco Williams but he is simultaneously in talks over a new long-term contract at the City Ground.
Newcastle United are also among several Premier League clubs monitoring the 25-year-old.
Despite the growing interest, Forest remain quietly confident that Williams will commit his future to the club.
Although his current contract runs until 2029, Forest are prepared to reward him with improved terms in an attempt to ward off potential suitors.
Man United unlikely to sign Neco Williams
Williams arrived at Forest from Liverpool in July 2022 in a deal worth £12 million.
He enjoyed a fine 2025-26 season, missing just one Premier League match while contributing two goals and three assists.
The left-back is a fine defender but he does not appear to possess the elite quality expected of a Man United starter.
There is every chance this speculation has been fuelled by Williams’ agents in an effort to strengthen his negotiating position with Forest.
United are eyeing a left-back capable of sharing the workload with Luke Shaw.
The former Southampton academy graduate remarkably started every Premier League match last season after finally putting his injury troubles behind him.
However, expecting Shaw to maintain that availability while United compete twice a week across multiple competitions would be unrealistic.
United have earmarked Lewis Hall as their dream left-back target.
For now, INEOS are fully focused on bolstering their midfield.
United are closing in on the signing of Andrey Santos from Chelsea and could soon confirm the arrival of Ederson from Atalanta.
Once the midfield rebuild is complete, INEOS are expected to revisit the left-back position later in the transfer window.
