Newcastle United have confirmed their third player departure of the summer.
The 24-year-old makes an immediate return to England’s third tier after spending the second half of last season on loan at Bradford City alongside Newcastle teammate Joe White.
Ashby joined the Magpies from West Ham United in January 2023 and was even unveiled on the pitch alongside Anthony Gordon ahead of the club’s Carabao Cup semi-final second-leg victory over Southampton.
Gordon went on to make 159 appearances for United, scoring 39 times and registering 28 assists. Ashby, meanwhile, has appeared in a handful of pre-season friendlies but is yet to make his competitive debut.
The 24-year-old spent the 2023-24 and 2024-25 campaigns on loan at Swansea City and Queens Park Rangers, respectively, before his half-season spell at Bradford.
Harrison Ashby leaves Newcastle United on loan - another set to follow
Ashby now links with Luton, who are managed by former Arsenal and England midfielder Jack Wilshere.
Although nowhere near as high-profile, Ashby is the third player to leave Newcastle this summer following the sales of Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali to Barcelona and Tottenham Hotspur, respectively, for a combined £169million.
“Everyone at Newcastle United would like to wish Harrison well for the season ahead,” a club statement said.
Elsewhere, White is also expected to leave this summer, potentially on a permanent transfer.
The 23-year-old midfielder made four appearances for Newcastle during the 2023-24 season amid an injury crisis but since graduating from the academy has spent the majority of his time out on loan.
White has had six separate loan spells in four-and-a-half-years, including Hartlepool United, Exeter City, Crewe Alexandra, MK Dons, Leyton Orient and Bradford City.
