Luton Town – The Ashby Files

Yesterday, it was announced that the Hatters had made their third signing of the summer.

The latest acquisition, as reported by Vital Luton Town – newcastle-defender-joins-on-loan – was Harrison Ashby, on a season long loan deal from Newcastle United, although it was pointed out by some of the readership that his acquisition could become permanent with the player being in the last year of his contract with Newcastle United.

Also, it was pointed out that Harrison is the son of the Watford legend, Barry Ashby, but we won’t hold that against him.

Harrison, it is hoped will fill the right-back spot we all acknowledged as being vital.

But reading more into the deal, it appears that the duo, Jack Wilshere and Harrison Ashby, are familiar with each other, with Harrison being quoted in an article published by the – Official Site:

“Being with him at West Ham, it was a bit of a little reunion for us, and after five minutes I said to my agent, ‘yes, I want to be here’

“The main thing is he knows what kind of character I am already, and he knows what kind of player I am as well. So, I think straightaway the philosophy matches my playing style, which is perfect for me, and I think I can slot into the team and help them straight away.”

I sincerely hope so, but I will also admit that I had clean forgotten that, at the tail end of his career Jack Wilshere was on the books of West Ham United.

As for the boss, Jack Wilshere, also as reported by the – Official Site – had this to say about his latest recruit

“I was playing alongside Harrison for West Ham when he made his debut, and you could tell that he had something. Technically he was always clean, and he was very young then, but physically he was good.

“I kept an eye on him going to Newcastle because Eddie Howe is someone, I worked with and a coach that I respect, so I always thought that he’d be good for him.

“He was at Bradford last year, so he understands the league and he says he loved his loan there. That tells me he’s someone that buys into a coach, a way of playing and a way of working with a good attitude, that we need right now.”

Football continues to throw up these strange quirks, and it shouldn’t be forgotten that when Harrison moved from West Ham United to Newcastle United, a reputed fee of £3 million changed hands.
