Louie Barry said playing for his boyhood club Aston Villa was an “honour” in an emotional goodbye to Villa Park.

The 23-year-old forward has left the club after six-and-a-half years to join Sheffield Wednesday for an undisclosed transfer fee, signing a four-year deal with an option of a fifth year at Hillsborough.

He described winning the FA Youth Cup and scoring against Liverpool on his professional debut as “moments I’ll cherish and keep close to my heart forever”.

Posting a message on Instagram, Barry said: “After 6 years at Aston Villa, the club I’ve supported my whole life, it’s time for me to start a new chapter in my career.

“I came in as a boy, and through all the experiences I’ve had, all the ups and downs, Villa helped me throughout. Now I’m leaving as a man.

“Winning the FA Youth Cup and scoring on my professional debut against Liverpool are moments I’ll cherish and keep close to my heart forever.

“Thank you to everyone at the club - from the staff and the players to everyone who helped me throughout my loan spells.

“It’s been an honour to be an Aston Villa player, and I wish everyone at the club all the very best. UTV”

Villa’s Morgan Rogers, who is currently on World Cup duty with England, replied to Barry, saying “Good luck my boy” and posting three heart emojis.
