The defender was speaking ahead of Saturday’s huge match in Miami.
Villa defender Ezri Konsa is confident he and the rest of England’s defence can shut down Erling Haaland in Saturday’s World Cup quarter-final.
The Three Lions face a Norway team spearheaded by the Manchester City striker in Miami with the prize for the winners a place in the last-four.
Haaland has enjoyed an excellent tournament, scoring seven goals including both in his country’s 2-1 win over Brazil last weekend. The brace extended a run which has seen the 25-year-old score in each of the last 15 competitive matches for his country.
But Konsa, the only outfield player to have completed 90 minutes in every England match so far, has good reason to be optimistic.
The 28-year-old boasts a strong personal record against Haaland, who has scored only one goal in the last 406 minutes he has played against the Villa centre-back.
Konsa told BBC Sport: “I think I have come up against Haaland quite a few times now. I know what he is about. I know what I am about.
“We all know his qualities and what he can do in front of goal but I really do believe in myself, in my abilities and what I can do as a defender.
“I think as long as we believe we can go into the game thinking we aren’t going to give him a yard, or know we can go onto that pitch and stop him from scoring, that is the only way to go about it.”
Konsa has been the mainstay of a seemingly ever-changing England backline which will again be shaken-up by boss Thomas Tuchel for the meeting with Norway.
With Jarrel Quansah suspended following his red card in last weekend’s 3-2 win over Mexico, Reece James is pushing to return at right-back after recovering from a hamstring injury.
But Konsa’s central defensive partner, Marc Guehi, is now a doubt with his own hamstring issue, meaning John Stones could make his first start since the opening group stage win over Croatia.
Konsa, meanwhile, believes the presence of Harry Kane in England’s team makes Saturday’s match a showdown between the world’s best two strikers.
He said: “It is two strikers on top of their game right now. It will be nice to witness greatness on the pitch.”
