Leeds United set for transfer set-back as key man passes Manchester United medical

Karl Darlow is closing in on a free transfer to Manchester United.

Multiple reports suggest the 35-year-old will reject Leeds United ’s offer of a new deal to sign for a back-up role at Old Trafford. Darlow was out of contract at the end of the 2025/26 season.

The Athletic say there are ‘finer points’ that need to be sorted out but insists United are ‘in advanced stages’ of agreeing a deal for a player who has spent the last three years at Elland Road. Sky Sports says Darlow has agreed personal terms and passed a medical.

If he does sign for Man Utd he will become No. 2 to Senne Lammens, with Andre Onana having already joined Trabzonspor on loan and Altay Bayindir expected to move on. Young goalkeeper Radek Vitek, who spent last season at Bristol City, wants to move for first team football.

Darlow’s prospects of that at Leeds this season were not clear, having superceded Lucas Perri to become first choice last term, the Whites are been extensively linked with Japan international Zion Suzuki, Sweden’s Jacob Widell Zetterstrom and Man City back-up James Trafford.

The Northampton-born ‘keeper started the final 17 games of the Premier League season to take his Leeds total to 38. United still have Perri and are reported to have agreed a two-year deal with Alex Cairns. Illan Meslier has signed on a free transfer for Arsenal.
