Jhon Lucumi has consistently been linked with a move to England and Nottingham Forest are in the race for his signature.
The centre-back put in impressive performances for Colombia at the World Cup. While the national team exited on penalties to Switzerland, the centre-back made quite a mark, especially in the group stage game against Portugal.
Such performances aren’t new for Lucumi. He attracted interest from Sunderland last summer and they made a formal move for him.
Sport Witness covered this extensively but Bologna managed to keep hold of him. Crucially, he didn’t renew his contract, which runs until 2027.
Lucumi is very likely to leave the Rossoblu and Nottingham Forest have a transfer chance.
Release clause still exists
Last summer, Sunderland had the chance to trigger Lucumi’s release clause but they miss the cut off date. The Colombian has a €28m release clause, with Juventus and Nottingham Forest in the race, as per TuttoSport.
The Old Lady though, have struggled with their move. They have tried to insert players in the deal to convince Bologna, but that hasn’t worked.
This can give Nottingham Forest a major opportunity, with Lucumi’s release clause expiring on July 15th.
The report states there is a good relationship between the Midlands club and Bologna.
Transfer gamble for Forest
Jhon Lucumi
MILAN, ITALY – SEPTEMBER 14, 2025: Jhon Lucumi of Bologna looks on during the Serie A AC MILAN v BOLOGNA FC at San Siro Stadium.
Jhon Lucumi has done well enough for club and country to get a move to the Premier League, and was unfortunate not to secure the Sunderland move.
Given his contract now has less than a year left to run, Bologna are under far more pressure. There’s a chance Lucumi would be available for less than the €28m clause later in the window.
That, however, would be a gamble and not a foregone conclusion.
