Emerson Royal admits he’s flattered by Aston Villa’s efforts to sign him this summer.
The 27-year-old only joined Brazilian side Flamengo last July but has emerged as a target for Villa boss Unai Emery, who is keen to add competition for Matty Cash at right-back.
Talks between Villa and Flamengo over a deal for Emerson began in June, although it remains unclear how far negotiations have progressed.
Speaking after Flamengo’s 2-0 friendly victory over Lausanne-Sport, Emerson said he is happy at the Brazilian club but could not guarantee where his future lies.
"As I said, until nothing is decided, my head is always at Flamengo," Emerson said, via Itatiaia Esporte.
"I am very happy to receive this proposal, as it shows that my work is being done well. My head is at Flamengo, but I don't know about the future."
Emerson made 101 appearances for Tottenham Hotspur between 2021 and 2024 but struggled to consistently meet expectations during his time in north London.
He joined Spurs from Barcelona after an impressive spell at Real Betis, where he established himself as one of Europe’s most promising right-backs.
In the summer of 2024, AC Milan were interested in signing Cash before ultimately opting to sign Emerson instead.
