Sunderland have stepped forward for AS Roma’s Matias Soule, and have been handed encouragement about a possible move.
The attacker’s future in Rome has been uncertain for many weeks. At one point, Aston Villa were interested in signing him. Sport Witness covered how a move was possible because Roma needed sales before 30th June due to FFP obligations.
At that point, Soule stayed as no clubs made formal offers for him. Talk around Sunderland is now growing and the player could be interested in a transfer.
Hope given to Black Cats
Today’s Corriere dello Sport explains Florent Ghisolfi wants to bring creativity to the Sunderland attack. He sees Soule as the ideal option to do it, having seen him from up close during their time at Roma.
He is the driving force behind the move, as Soule finds himself on the Black Cats’ wish-list.
The Argentine has rejected a move to Saudi Arabia already. He is keen on a move to England and a move to Sunderland would be ‘seriously considered’.
As for Roma, they aren’t willing to grant any discounts.
They want a capital gain of €15m to €20m, with the player having joined them for €30m in 2024. Now, they would need a fee of around €35m to execute a sale, given the amortisation which has already been counted.
Soule would be an exciting signing
Even though a deal is in the initial stages, Sunderland fans should be excited about Soule.
Not long ago, he was one of the best talents in Serie A, and impressed in his first season at Roma. He had a loan at Frosinone before that, which helped him earn the big move to the Italian capital.
Last season, he contributed to over ten Serie A goals, held back a little by injuries. His 1v1 ability and dynamism is a positive, as is his versatility.
A Sunderland move could reignite his career and playing in Europe should convince him.
