“Going to be hell” – Newcastle signing sent warning, first months will be an eye opener

New Newcastle United signing Sean Steur has been warned his first few months at the club are “going to be hell” as he arrives from Ajax.

ESPN report comments from journalists Kenneth Perez and Bram van Polen today after the Ajax youngster sealed a €27m move to Newcastle this week.

Newcastle United move confirmed

The young midfielder is the latest signing for Newcastle as they rebuild their midfield following the departure of Sandro Tonali.

The 18-year-old arrives at St James Park with a wealth of experience under his belt for Ajax’s youth set up, playing for them at youth, U17, U18 and U21 level. He’s also got 26 appearances for Ajax’s first team as well.

But Perez thinks he’s in for a rude awakening when he gets started at Newcastle, which will be a different experience altogether.

“I’d like to see Steur at the first training session,” he said.

“He’ll turn up there ready to play some football and then: bam, the first tackle. And another one. If you can get through that, you’ll probably become a better player in the long run. But I think the first three months will be hell.”

Magpies eye opener

Van Polen, meanwhile, can see things going differently. He believes those first few months with the Magpies will be an eye opener for the young midfielder.

“Or perhaps not. Maybe he’ll see the light and spend the first three or four months doing nothing but working out at the gym. That’s not ideal either,” he said.

The question is what Newcastle’s plan for Sean Steur is. Sport Witness have covered reports explaining how the Magpies see the midfielder and why they’ve moved this summer.

But that is likely to be very dependent on how he performs in pre-season first. And according to Perez and Van Polen, that’s set to be an eye-opening experience for the 18-year-old.
