All the latest transfer news and gossip for Brighton and Hove Albion and across the Premier League
Brighton have been linked with a move for Switzerland and Seville winger Ruben Vargas.
The 27-year-old has impressed at the World Cup and has also attracted interest from Tottenham, Leeds and West Ham.
Last season in La Liga the former FC Augsburg man made 24 appearances for Seville with three goals and six assists. Vargas has two goals and one assist from five appearances at the World Cup and will hope to add that tally in Switzerland’s quarter-final against Argentina this Sunday in Kansas.
£15m for Vargas
Spanish media outlet Mundo Deportivo reported that Brighton are "preparing a bid for Vargas" and have been in talks with Seville over a possible £15m deal.
The Seagulls - who will compete in the Conference and the Premier League this coming season - are keen to add to the left side of their attack amid uncertainty surrounding Kaoru Mitoma.
The Japan international sustained a hamstring injury at the back end of last season and missed Japan's World Cup campaign.
Mitoma was also involved in a car accident this week and faces a police investigation after his car knocked a cyclist from her bike in Tokyo. The cyclist suffered bruising and Mitoma was unhurt but it all adds further disruption for the 29-year-old as he prepares for the new season.
Kaoru Mitom doubt
It’s unclear if Mitoma will feature at all for Brighton in pre-season and he must be a major doubt for their Premier League opener against Aston Villa on August 23, or their Conference League play-off first leg on August 20.
Brighton's Maxim De Cuyper - still in World Cup action Belgium - is a left wing option for head coach Fabian Hurzeler, while Paraguay international Diego Gomez can also operate on the left side of the attack.
Former Sunderland man Tommy Watson - who spent last season on loan Millwall - is also a left sided attacker and could be option. Watson though is yet to perform on a regular basis in the Premier League.
Vargas is though a specialist it that position and would also add a great deal of experience to the Seagulls attack.
Mitoma's latest situation - along with his recent injury issues - is a concern for Brighton and they may just see Vargas as a solution.
