Striker signs for Newcastle United's Premier League rivals just weeks after being spotted on…

Former Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson will be staying in the Premier League next season.

Wilson left St James’ Park at the end of his contract last year before penning a one-year contract with the Hammers.

The 34-year-old scored seven goals in 32 Premier League appearances but was unable to prevent the East London club from being relegated to the Championship.

Former Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson joins West Ham

On joining the Bees, Wilson said: “It’s nice, it’s amazing, I’m grateful for the opportunity. I’m delighted to be here and joining as part of the family.

“I spoke with the manager. We had a good conversation and he was very enthusiastic. He told me about his ambition for the club and what his ambitions and desires are, and I felt like I could add quality to that.

“Having watched and played against Brentford many times, I liked the feel and togetherness of the squad. I thought I could see myself being a part of it.

“They were good games and Brentford played really well. I liked the way that the midfielders played and everybody was playing forward early. As a striker, you know you’re going to get many opportunities, which is fantastic.”

Callum Wilson spotted on Tyneside

Despite leaving Newcastle, both the club and the city still hold a special place in Wilson’s heart after a memorable five-year spell on Tyneside, where he scored 49 goals in 130 appearances.

But there will be no sweet treats once the football season gets back underway. Wilson and Brentford are due to visit St James’ Park on February 27, while the reverse fixture takes place at the Gtech Community Stadium on December 19.
