'Forced to sell' - Feyenoord expert's exciting lowdown on Nottingham Forest transfer target

Nottingham Forest have been credited with an interest in rising Feyenoord star Givairo Read.

The Reds have lodged one bid for the right back, which has been rejected, and are expected to return with a second for a player who at just 20-years-old is attracting attention across Europe.

Read, joined Feyenoord from FC Volendam in 2023 and has cemented himself as their first choice.

He has already played 54 times for the Rotterdam outfit, has experienced the Champions and Europa Leagues and is rising through the Dutch national youth set-up.

Nottingham Post spoke to Mikos Gouka, Feyenoord reporter at the Algemeen Dagblad for his take on the rumours and how Read might do in the Premier League.

What kind of player is Givairo Read?

Mikos : Givairo Read is a 20-year-old modern, attacking right-back. He is known for playing with high intensity, frequently making overlapping runs, and showing consistent involvement in build-up play.

He is the prototypical wide defender for a team looking to stretch the pitch, pushing high up the right flank to provide width and create crossing opportunities while still maintaining his defensive responsibilities.

What are his strengths/weaknesses?

Mikos: Read's standout attributes are his pace and athleticism. He is outstanding in possession, which helps him in attacks. His offensive output is impressive for a young defender. In 54 senior appearances for Feyenoord, he scored 5 goals and got 11 assists. He played outstanding against Leao against AC Milan.

He struggles in the air. He can be targeted by diagonal long balls. Additionally, he missed several weeks last season with hamstring problems, which might concern given the intense physical demands of the English game.

Has he Premier League ability and is he ready now?

Mikos: He looks ready for the step up. Read broke through to become already a regular starter for Feyenoord during the 2024–25 season. He has played in the Champions League and Europa League (even scoring against Panathinaikos) and winning the UEFA European Under-19 Championship with the Netherlands in 2025. But he was not in the picture of the national team so far.

Has there been a lot of speculation around him?

Mikos: There has been a lot of speculation, specifically Nottingham Forest did a bid of €17.5 million which Feyenoord rejected. Forest isn't alone. Manchester City and Bayern Munich are also monitoring him.

Would Feyenoord sell him and would he leave?

Mikos: Feyenoord is taking a tough stance, but a deal is possible. The club recently underwent a hierarchy change, with new CEO Robert Eenhoorn and Technical Director Dévy Rigaux adopting a strict policy of maximizing transfer income rather than cashing in early.

Read is under contract until mid-2029, giving Feyenoord massive leverage. They have reportedly set an asking price of over €30 million. They expect Forest to return with an improved offer soon. If a bid arrives in the €25M–€30M region, Feyenoord will likely be forced to sell. Read is certainly open for a move.
