‘Wow!’ - Gabby Agbonlahor issues furious rant at Newcastle United transfer bombshell

Newcastle United are bracing themselves for an Arsenal approach for club captain Bruno Guimaraes.

Former Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor believes Newcastle United fans could turn on the club’s ownership if Bruno Guimaraes is sold.

The Magpies have already cashed in on Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali this summer. Last year, Alexander Isak was the bombshell departure as he completed a controversial £125million move to Liverpool.

Newcastle were always likely to be in a rebuilding process after finishing 12th last season. However, Guimaraes signalling his desire to leave - with Arsenal waiting in the wings - has dealt another hammer blow.

‘I feel for Newcastle’ - Gabby Agbonlahor

Speaking on talkSPORT, ex-Villa forward Agbonlahor has sympathised with Toon fans amid the Guimaraes bombshell. He said: “I feel for Newcastle, mate. I feel for the fans as well, because they'll have similar frustrations as Villa fans do. We're not going to go into detail on that again, people are bored of talking about it.

“But Tonali leaving after Isak left, and now Guimaraes wanting to leave as well. Your captain, probably the best player… but can you blame him? After everyone's starting to leave, he's probably looking at next season thinking, ‘No European football, we're losing our best players every season, what's happening with this football club?’

“Can the owners come out and explain what's going on? Do they want to sell up? Are they going to keep investing in this football club? But, if Arsenal do get him, wow.”

Newcastle United fans won’t be happy

Agbonlahor has also suggested Newcastle supporters could begin to vent their frustrations towards the ownership. He added: “Even Eddie Howe, he must be thinking, ‘This isn't what I signed up for’. Newcastle fans have been teased with this investment. They probably thought it was going to be similar to when Chelsea and (Roman) Abramovich came in.

“Now they're probably thinking, ‘Ok, we can't do that because of the rules, we can't invest like we thought we could’. If Newcastle finish top 10 next season, it'll be a great season. Having not kicked on after winning that Carabao Cup, that won't even be tough for them.

“We know what the fans are like in Newcastle. They won't be happy. If they start off poorly, they will vent their frustrations at that ownership.”
