Coventry City 'keeping tabs' on young Norwegian winger

Coventry City are reported to be “keeping tabs” on Norwegian prospect Niklas Fuglestad as they continue to monitor emerging talent from the Scandinavian market.

That’s according to information from ontheminute.com which claims the Sky Blues have added the “highly-rated” Viking forward to their list of players to watch.

The 20-year-old is said to have built a growing reputation at Viking and is viewed as one of the more exciting young wide players in Norwegian football.

The left-footed player plays predominantly on the right but can also play on the left, and came up through Viking’s youth set-up after spells with Våganes and Sola, and has also represented Norway at youth level.

The report says that his club are in a strong position in terms of a fee because Fuglestad is under contract until 2028.

It concludes: “Coventry have shown a willingness to look for younger players with long-term upside, and Fuglestad now appears to be firmly on their radar.”

Verdict: City are no strangers to the Scandinavian market, having signed both Oliver Dovin and Victor Torp in recent years. Fuglestad would, if reports are correct, be more of one for the future and seen as a possible investment to continue his development with City’s Under-21s with a view to breaking into the first team, rather than being a ready-made Premier League performer, which, in truth, is what Frank Lampard needs for his side to be competitive next season and have any chance of staying up.
