Sources: Coventry City in advanced talks to sign Champions League star

Coventry City are in advanced talks to sign Eintracht Frankfurt defender Aurele Amenda, according to GIVEMESPORT sources.

The Midlands club are preparing for a season in the Premier League after Frank Lampard's side were promoted last campaign.

So far, commentary has only confirmed the signing of Frank Onyeka after his loan move from Brentford was turned permanent.

There is no doubt Coventry will need to bring in reinforcements if they want to cement themselves as a Premier League side next term.

It's certainly never easy for clubs to gain promotion from the Championship and survive, so Lampard may need to add to his squad.

It now appears they are in the market to sign a new defender, with a deal closing in during the summer transfer window.

According to GIVEMESPORT sources, Coventry City are in advanced talks to sign Frankfurt defender Aurele Amenda in the summer transfer window.

The Swiss centre-back is currently at the World Cup and he is set to undergo a medical once their tournament is over.

Switzerland are set to face Argentina at the weekend in the quarter-final of the competition, although it would be a surprise if Amenda were to play a part.

The 22-year-old defender is yet to play a single minute of the World Cup and was brought as a backup option in defence.

For Frankfurt last season, Amenda did play a little more regularly, starting 18 games in the Bundesliga, while he also appeared five times in the Champions League.

Aston Villa midfielder Ross Barkley

GIVEMESPORT also understands that commentary is in advanced talks to sign Aston Villa midfielder Ross Barkley in the summer transfer window.

The English star is giving careful consideration to his next move, but Coventry remain relaxed over the situation.

We understand that Coventry are also pushing to conclude a deal to sign goalkeeper Carl Rushworth, who spent last season on loan at the club.

If Coventry are unsuccessful in their pursuit of Rushworth, they do have Everton goalkeeper Mark Travers as a backup option, according to GIVEMESPORT sources.

After a reasonably slow start to the window, Coventry are starting to make moves in the transfer market.
