Leeds United are being linked with all sorts of players, discerning truth from pure fiction is tough, but Mandela Keita can be categorised as the latter.
So far this summer, alongside the arrival of Harry Wilson, the only concrete link of Leeds attempting to add to Wilson is midfielder Shea Charles.
Southampton are proving a stubborn seller, though. So, it’s unsurprising that various reports are linking United with alternatives.
Leeds United, Mandela Keita transfer links refuse to go away despite Graham Smyth clarity
If Leeds were actively looking at backup transfer options to Charles, Parma midfielder Mandela Keita could be viable. The 24-year-old would be a smart option as cover for Ethan Ampadu, and likely to cost a similar fee to the Northern Irishman.
Except, it’s abundantly clear that he’s not someone Leeds are even considering right now.
That doesn’t stop the likes of teamTALK and Italian outlets from constantly trying to claim otherwise, that Leeds have strong interest in the midfielder and are trying to sign him in July.
Since those claims, the Yorkshire Evening Post’s Graham Smyth has poured cold water on the links. He’s reported that Keita is not of interest to Leeds, nor have we even made an enquiry for his signature:
As it stands Leeds haven't even made an enquiry. Not a player of interest, not on a shortlist right now.

Shea Charles feels like unique Leeds United transfer opportunity
Keita would be a savvy signing for Leeds, or any Premier League club wanting a defensive midfielder. So, when links surfaced to him, you can see the logic if we are in that market.
However, it looks as though it’s a case of Leeds wanting purely to sign Charles, rather than him being at the top of a midfield shortlist.
We clearly view him as a player that could be worth double his current value in a couple of years. Elliot Anderson, Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes, Adam Wharton and others are proof of that theory.
If Leeds don’t sign Charles, it’s not going to have a drastic negative impact on our chances of a good season. Landing him, though, could improve our depth tremendously and give us a player with enormous upside potential.
