Leeds United are going to be looking at signing a goalkeeper very soon, but it probably won’t be Derby County’s Jacob Widell Zetterstrom.
Karl Darlow’s confirmed decision to turn down the option to extend his Leeds contract leaves the 49ers in a spot of bother.
Now, the plan has to be to land a new goalkeeper to nail down the No1 spot at Elland Road long-term. Ideally, we get it done soon.
Leeds United links to Jacob Widell Zetterstrom quashed as 49ers’ goalkeeper search kicks on
Of the goalkeepers being touted for a move to Elland Road, there are plenty that would be decent signings. Some of the links are seemingly not totally true, meanwhile.
Added to that list is Derby County’s Jacob Widell Zetterstrom.
The Sweden international was claimed by Fabrizio Romano to have been subject to an enquiry from Leeds. That comes after a strong performance against us in the FA Cup, saving a Joel Piroe penalty.
However, the 27-year-old has now been claimed to not be part of Leeds’ developing goalkeeper shortlist. That’s according to the Yorkshire Post, who shares that he is not a player of current interest.
Of course, as the report outlines, plans can change and Zetterstrom could suddenly become someone Leeds take a serious interest in.
Leeds United need to act fast to secure new goalkeeper transfer
It goes without saying that we need to move quickly to secure a new goalkeeper. It’s a position that us Leeds fans have naturally been worried about for years and years.
With Darlow leaving, we need a likewise safe pair of hands. But, someone with much more longevity as a younger addition would be very welcome.
It doesn’t seem that Zetterstrom is that player. In truth, I’d definitely take him if it came down to it, but there are no doubt better options out there.
I guess we’ll have to see. I’m expecting that we make progress towards signing a goalkeeper quite soon, we definitely need to.
