Cherries squad returns for testing ahead of Rose's first pre-season as boss

It is set to be a big campaign for the Dorset club, as Marco Rose takes over as head coach and they play their first season in European competition in the Europa League.

The squad, including last season’s loanees, are set to report back to the performance centre for assessment by the club’s medical and performance teams.

It is a slightly later start to pre-season, with the league starting later due to the World Cup.

Those who have played for their national teams this summer, whether in friendlies after the season or at the World Cup, will have a later return and will join up with the squad at different points through pre-season.

Tests carried out today include strength and power tests, body composition analysis, mobility screening and cardiovascular tests designed to assess each player’s fitness levels after the summer break.

Staff then will be able to produce a comprehensive picture of the physical condition of each player which can then help shape training in the early stages of pre-season.

Training begins next week, as they get to know new boss Rose and his methods, ahead of a pre-season tour to Austria which begins on July 20.

They will play five pre-season games, before Bournemouth get their season underway away at Manchester City in August.
