Tarik Muharemovic
Sunderland have made a firm approach for Sassuolo’s Tarik Muharemović and will soon make further advances to sign him.
Four days ago, Sport Witness covered claims from Italy that the Premier League side and AFC Bournemouth could make concrete moves.
On Friday, we relayed news Sunderland have no issues paying €40m for the centre-back. Bologna’s Jhon Lucumí is an alternative, and he has a €28m clause valid until mid-July.
Details of Sunderland offer
The Black Cats have decided to bet on the Bosnia and Herzegovina international this summer.
Journalist Luca Cilli covered Sunderland and Bournemouth interest earlier this week. He took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to cover a fresh update about Régis Le Bris’ side.
Sunderland have a concrete interest in the Sassuolo player and are ahead of other suitors.
Another Italian journalist, Luca Cerchione, also took to X, to state that Sunderland have made further advances to sign the 23-year-old.
In order to convince the defender, the English club have offered a five-year contract worth €3.5m net per year. There’s no mention of whether this is enough for Tarik Muharemović to give the green light.
Sunderland will start negotiations with Sassuolo, by submitting an official bid next week.
Muharemović unlikely to return to Juventus
Sassuolo bought the Bosnian in 2025, a year after signing him on loan from the Turin club. His performances have convinced Juventus to bring him back, but it won’t be easy.
Quotidiano Sportivo claim Tarik Muharemović’s return ‘risks becoming an uphill battle’ because of the Premier League interest.
The Old Lady can still benefit from the player’s sale as they retain a 50% sell-on clause.
