Tomori has been a long-time target for Eddie Howe and is now set to leave the San Siro ahead of next season.

Newcastle were linked with a move for the England centre-back last summer, but he stayed at Milan to feature 37 times across all competitions in 2025-26.

Milan have made Tomori, whose contract ends in 11 months time in June 2027, available for sale before this summer window closes.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, Newcastle are set to lead the busy chase for his services as Howe aims to bolster his defensive options.

The Magpies manager is aware of his aging centre-back options, while some of his younger stars have been linked away from the club this summer.

Fikayo Tomori could join Newcastle after AC Milan latest

Tomori has been a regular in Milan's backline since he joined the club permanently from Chelsea in 2021.

Now 28-years-old, he is on the radar of several clubs across Europe, with a return to the Premier League seeming likely if Newcastle return to the table for a deal.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "If Eddie Howe wants to strengthen his defensive options, Tomori I'm sure is somebody who would figure on his wanted list.

"I think there'll be a number of clubs, Premier League sides, probably other European sides too, that would be interested in Tomori, as it does seem that Milan would be willing to cash in on him. So look, it'll be a pretty open race for tomorrow if Milan do open the doors for him."

Johan Manzambi to be next Newcastle signing after Freiburg agreement

Tomori's situation could rumble on until the end of the summer transfer window as several clubs across Europe eye his services.

Newcastle have suffered a rough start to the window already, but look set for some positivity in the coming days as a new signing is agreed.

Sources revealed to Football Insider earlier in the week that Manzambi wanted to agree a deal with Newcastle, and that move now looks set to be completed soon,

Newcastle have had a £51.5million bid accepted for the Switzerland star, and barring any late hitches, he will arrive on Tyneside soon.
