Rotherham United head coach Alex Bruce has not ruled out the possibility of a contract being handed to Brandon Williams.

The latter has played in the Premier League for Manchester United, but has seen his stock plummet in recent years.

A left-back who represented England at under-21 level, the 25-year-old is now looking to get his career back on track. He featured as a trialist for Rotherham in their first pre-season friendly of the summer last night, a 1-0 win over local non-league outfit Parkgate.

Alex Bruce outlines Brandon Williams stance

Millers boss Bruce told the Rotherham Advertiser: “Brandon has a good pedigree. He's worked with the very best and played against the best. He was showing me a game between Manchester United and Liverpool at Anfield where he was playing. We know what he's capable of.

“He's had a tough couple of years. He's not done a proper pre-season for two or three years now and he's had a few problems with injuries.

“It's a case of just seeing where he's at, getting a good pre-season into him, and seeing where we go with it.”

James Furlong features for Rotherham United

Fans in attendance also caught a glimpse of another former Hull defender wearing Rotherham colours, as James Furlong lined up for the Millers.

The 24-year-old, also a left-back, departed Hull for Slovenian giants Maribor in February. A former Republic of Ireland youth international, he appears to be keen on securing a return to English football.

Hull signed the defender from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2023 but afforded him just one appearance across nearly three seasons.
