'Incredible, joy to watch' - What Coventry City could be getting with 'raw' talent Loum Tchaouna

News that Coventry City are set to sign French winger Loum Tchaouna from relegated Burnley has received a mixed reaction after the player’s seemingly indifferent form in the Premier League last season.

The 22-year-old joined the Clarets for a reported £12million from Serie A side Lazio last summer and went on to make 14 league starts and 15 substitute appearances, while scoring two top flight goals for last season’s strugglers.

Now, according to European transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, the Sky Blues have secured the player from Turf Moor on a '£20m package'.

While some Burnley fans have been disparaging about the player’s inconsistency and lack of impact over the course of the 2025/26 campaign, there were clearly signs that the quick and tricky right winger was beginning to find his form just as the season was coming to an end.

Burnley Express writer Matt Scrafton wrote in early May: “Loum Tchaouna enjoyed his best display in a Burnley shirt to date during the weekend’s draw with Aston Villa.

“The winger was in excellent form from the off, giving former Clarets loanee Ian Maatsen a torrid time on the right flank during Sunday’s 2-2 draw.

“He was always positive, looking to get at his marker and drive towards goal – something that has been sorely lacking in Burnley’s game this season.

“It’s fair to say the 22-year-old’s summer move from Lazio has failed to work out thus far, but the Frenchman has finally started to show some promise during the final few games of the season.

“Having scored three goals in all competitions from his 30 games, Tchaouna has found himself outside of the starting XI for much of the campaign,

“But the wide man was like a different man against Villa at the weekend, rightly earning the praise of Burnley’s interim boss Mike Jackson after the final whistle.”

Jackson said: “I thought he was incredible. He just needs to realise what he is and what he’s really good at. He’s still really, really young, really raw, but he was a joy to watch.”

French outlet L’Equipe claimed that AS Monaco expressed an interest in signing the player in January, but Burnley opted to keep hold of him for the second half of the season.

Tchaouna, a one-time France Under-21 international, began his career with Rennes before making the move to Italy in 2023, joining Salernitana. He left to join Lazio after one season.
