PL rivals enquire for exit-bound GK – Leeds United must hijack as Karl Darlow replacement: View

Leeds United are now actively in the market for a new goalkeeper as Karl Darlow opts to warm the Old Trafford bench.

After surviving relegation relatively comfortably, there wasn’t a lot of crucial investment needed to overhaul the side.

However, with Pascal Struijk leaving, followed by Karl Darlow also departing, the club are forced into recruitment for the rear guard.

Leeds United need a new goalkeeper ASAP after Karl Darlow exit decision

United’s priority after signing Harry Wilson is now firmly on the defence and goalkeeper positions. A left-footed centre-back was a priority, and now so is a new starting goalkeeper.

I know I’m not alone here, but I can’t see a world where Daniel Farke is happy with Lucas Perri regaining his starting spot. So, there’s opportunity for an ambitious signing to be made that solidifies us between the sticks.

Leeds’ options span far and wide across Europe. As a result, there’s potential for some very shrewd signings to be made in July.

In previous windows, the 49ers have been savvy in exploring players with situations that favour a transfer. Whether it’s free transfers, or players with dwindling contracts, it’s an avenue that might well be explored again.

Hull City enquire for Noah Atubolu – Leeds United ought to hijack deal

A worthwhile option to explore is Freiburg’s Noah Atubolu. The German 24-year-old has already made it clear to his club that he intends to leave this summer after their Europa League final run.

Importantly, alongside requesting to leave, Atubolu’s contract is also into the final 12 months, meaning any transfer is unlikely to cost a fortune for United, relative to others such as Zion Suzuki or James Trafford.

However, the 6ft2in stopper has become subject to reported interest from our Premier League rivals Hull City. That’s according to Bild, who claim that the Tigers have made an enquiry to sign Atubolu.

Whether or not Hull City will be successful is hard to say. Atubolu, per Florian Plettenberg, is already claimed to have knocked back various approaches from top flight clubs across Europe. So, a newly-promoted club with survival odds stacked against them might not be the best offer he’s got on the table.

With that in mind, he would certainly be an improvement in goal for Leeds. If the price is right and Atubolu himself is keen, it’s a deal that would definitely take us forward.
