Leeds United have more fringe players that ought to leave the club this summer. Those returning from loans are likely to face exits.
When Daniel Farke brought Leeds back into the Premier League, there were some ruthless decisions made on players who weren’t part of the plans.
Of those out on loan, there aren’t many that have forced their way back into the manager’s plans.
Max Wober set to return to Leeds United with exit already in the pipeline
Without doubt, the most disastrous loan spell of Leeds’ outbound group was Max Wober. The unpopular Elland Road centre-back was promptly told by the club last summer that he was to leave. He headed to Werder Bremen on loan for the season.
Except, the Austrian barely featured for the Bundesliga club. Having made his debut in a DFB-Pokal upset against second tier opposition, a lengthy hamstring injury kept him sidelined from August until late April.
In the end, Wober only made two league appearances for Werder Bremen, and won’t be signed permanently. The centre-back spoke recently to acknowledge that he’s not expecting to have heaps of offers on the table this summer after such a tough campaign.
It’s been reported now by the Daily Mail that Wober is expected to leave the club again this summer, while Sebastiaan Bornauw could also depart:
“Sebastiaan Bornauw could yet go and Max Wober who spent last year on loan at Werder Bremen, while winger Jack Harrison, who is one of their bigger earners, is in negotiations over a move to New England Revolution.”
Leeds United need to cut ties with Max Wober as soon as possible with centre-back sale
I can’t imagine that Wober returning to Thorp Arch will feel like a totally natural reunion. He’s not a popular figure amongst fans after his decision to jump ship midway through 2023 pre-season. Also, it seems as though Farke didn’t take too kindly to it.
The fact he was banished early last summer said a lot too. And since then, he’s hardly shown anything to suggest he’ll be brought back in from the cold.
We need to sell him as soon as possible really. That’s if we can even manage to get any sort of fee for him. He’s under contract for 12 more months, so maybe the club just loan him out with his wages covered, and we can forget about him.
He’s got no future here and he knows it.
