Former Leeds United owner Ken Bates passed away on Saturday morning aged 94.
Leeds United have offered their condolences to the family, friends and past colleagues of former Whites owner Ken Bates following his death at the age of 94.
News that Bates had passed away emerged on Saturday afternoon with initial statements from Chelsea Football Club and the BBC.
Chelsea said Bates passed away peacefully in Monaco on Saturday morning surrounded by his wife and family.
A Leeds United statement read: “It has been announced that former Leeds United owner and chairman Ken Bates has passed away at the age of 94.
“Bates became owner of Leeds United in January 2005 and had an eight-and-a-half year tenure as chairman, until stepping down following the sale of the club to GFH Capital, in July 2013.
“The thoughts of everyone at Leeds United are with the family, friends and former colleagues of Ken at this difficult time. Rest in peace.”
