Manchester United have been told why they should try to beat Arsenal to the signing of Bruno Guimaraes. The Newcastle United star’s future has been the subject of intense speculation over the last few weeks, with a move away from St James’ Park becoming increasingly likely.
Arsenal have emerged as the frontrunners to sign the Brazil international, with suggestions that an initial offer may already have been rejected.
There have also been reports that Newcastle value Guimaraes at around £75million this summer, with the 28-year-old under contract on Tyneside until 2028
It was also reported earlier this month that Guimaraes had expressed a desire to leave Newcastle this summer, fuelling rumours that a move to Arsenal could materialise.
United have been heavily linked with strengthening their midfield and have been told why they should look to bring Guimaraes to Old Trafford this summer.
Bryan Robson, a United legend, believes a move for Guimaraes would be a wise deal to complete, but explained why he thinks a move could be tough to complete this summer.
It was reported in March that United were 'advancing in talks' to sign Guimaraes in a £69m deal.
"Bruno Guimaraes would be the right player for Manchester United to replace Casemiro,” Robson told Hajper.
“I’ve always liked him as a captain. He’s got a great attitude. He must be a good lad to have around the place. He’s carried himself really well at Newcastle.
"You’ve got to be careful how many players you send forward but the way Bruno Fernandes gets on the ball, Bruno Guimaraes can do the work that Casemiro has done at United because he’s such an intelligent player.
"Casemiro got a little bit of stick for not being able to get about the park enough but he was clever too, scored goals with his head and could defend well when he was in the right position, and he was great at passing it forward through to Bruno. Bruno Guimaraes can do all that for you too.
"He’s a midfield player who can do a little bit of both, in attacking and in defence, and he’s got a very good engine.
"The only question mark is whether he’d be available now this summer. I’d be very surprised if Newcastle sold him in the same summer as Sandro Tonali leaving the club. I’m not sure they’d allow it."
United have already agreed a deal to sign Andrey Santos from Chelsea as they look to strengthen their midfield options, while there remains uncertainty over whether a move for Ederson from Atalanta will get over the line.
