Curtis Jones was left so startled upon hearing that an agreement had allegedly been reached for his transfer between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest that he responded directly via social media on Saturday.
The 25-year-old has been widely expected to leave Anfield this summer. While Juventus, Inter Milan and Galatasaray have been linked with a move for the midfielder, the Tricky Trees have also entered the frame as potential suitors.
Forest will be searching the market for additions to their midfield department, particularly after losing Elliot Anderson to Manchester City in a £116million transfer earlier this month.
And although one outlet, boasting more than 424,000 followers online, reported that the City Ground club have secured an initial agreement for Jones, the Merseyside-born player seemingly holds a different view.
Heading to the comments section beneath an Instagram post declaring the 'deal' Jones merely posted a raised eyebrow emoji, suggesting the news came as a surprise to him.
That response swiftly accumulated more than 3,800 likes, with numerous supporters replying to Jones with evident relief. Amongst a series of laughing emojis from fellow users, one commented: "This guy is staying thank god," while another responded: "As surprised as we are."
It comes as Jones' future at Anfield remains uncertain, with Andoni Iraola anticipated to bolster his squad this summer as he looks to compete in the Premier League and Europe.

Arne Slot could only deliver a fifth-place finish in 2025/26, despite the board investing a remarkable £446m on new signings for the league champions.
Liverpool are understood to be insisting on a fee of no less than £30m to sanction Jones' departure this summer, with Inter Milan reluctant to meet that asking price despite their sustained interest.
That figure effectively reflects the Reds' assessment of their academy product, alongside an inflated transfer market at present given the high demand for midfielders.

Jones proved a valuable squad member for Liverpool last term, clocking up 1,930 minutes across 34 Premier League outings. He also contributed a goal and two assists during that period.
Following Iraola's appointment, however, it remains unclear whether the new manager intends to deploy the Englishman in the forthcoming campaign.
