Leeds United enter race for Pascal Struijk replacement – Bournemouth, Sunderland also keen:…

Leeds United have entered the running to sign Sassuolo centre-back Tarik Muharemovic, alongside Sunderland and Bournemouth.

The Whites have a few pressing matters to attend to in the transfer market after significant departures.

Pascal Struijk is an obvious priority. He was our only left-footed centre-back and needs replacing, but with time ticking before pre-season, it’s a deal that needs sorting sooner rather than later.

Leeds United join pursuit of Sassuolo’s Tarik Muharemovic – Fabrizio Romano

Signing a left-footer to slot into the defence alongside Jaka Bijol and Joe Rodon seems a non-negotiable. After scouring a fair few across Europe that could fit the bill, Sassuolo’s Tarik Muharemovic seemed one of my standout options.

Now, it seems the club agree, as Fabrizio Romano reports that United are in the running to sign the Bosnia international.

He reports that Leeds have joined Bournemouth and Sunderland in their interest, as well as Italian giants Juventus weighing up their options, boasting a 50% sell-on clause.

Muharemovic, 23, has impressed during his time in the Serie A and could be another shrewd signing from that part of the world, after Bijol’s arrival from Udinese.

Leeds United must pursue Tarik Muharemovic ASAP after Pascal Struijk exit

It’s abundantly clear that we need to replace Struijk soon. We can’t go too far into pre-season without having our back five settled and getting used to each other.

So, this interest in Muharemovic is very welcome. He’s more than good enough to replace Struijk at at 23, could represent a much better long-term option.

How much he costs remains to be seen, though, because he’s contracted at Sassuolo until 2031, and his club know they’ll lose half of their fee to Juventus.
