'My agent...' – Arthur Masuaku issues Sunderland future update amid transfer uncertainty

Arthur Masuaku has issued an update on his Sunderland future after spending the second half of last season on loan at Lens

Arthur Masuaku has admitted he does not know what the future holds as he prepares to return to Sunderland for pre-season training.

The defender signed for the Black Cats last summer and spent the first half of the season on Wearside before joining Lens on loan in January. His long-term future now remains unclear as Sunderland continue to shape their squad ahead of the new campaign.

Speaking to Sports News Africa, Masuaku was asked about his Sunderland future and whether he expected to remain at the Stadium of Light. “Honestly, I don’t know,” he said. “At the end of the month I will return to training at my club, I will play and regarding the rest of my career my agent will handle it. For now I’m going back to my club.”

The comments suggest Masuaku is expecting to report back to Sunderland as things stand, though a final decision on his future has not yet been made. Masuaku joined Sunderland last summer as part of the club’s recruitment drive following promotion. The experienced left-sided defender arrived with significant pedigree, having played in the Premier League, European football and at international level.

However, after six months with Sunderland, he moved to Lens on loan in January in search of regular football. His future is now one of several situations to resolve as Sunderland prepare for a season that will include both Premier League and Europa League football.

The Black Cats have already seen major movement this summer, with Granit Xhaka’s future now settled and Eliezer Mayenda completing his move to Rennes. Attention has now turned to further incomings and possible exits as Régis Le Bris’ squad continues to take shape.
