Alan Shearer speaks out - Honest thoughts on Newcastle United transfer business

Newcastle United are aiming add to the three players they have signed so far this summer.

Alan Shearer is hopeful Newcastle United can get Johan Manzambi over the line this summer.

Toon chiefs have made progress over the past 72 hours for the Swiss international. NewcastleWorld understands there was concern about a potential hijack after the Victor Munoz saga.

However, positive talks have been held with Freiburg over Manzambi, who has the same agent as Eddie Howe, Lewis Hall, Harvey Barnes and Tino Livramento. The 20-year-old - if he arrives - will join fellow prospects Ewan Jaouen, Bazoumana Toure and Sean Steur through the door.

‘I’m hoping’ - Alan Shearer

Shearer rates Manzambi but, even if he arrives, the Toon icon wants more additions at St James’ Park. He told Betfair: “Newcastle are targeting young hungry up-and-coming players for £30million to £40million. I'm pleased that eventually Newcastle have started to move because it was getting a tad anxious after they sold Gordon and Sandro Tonali.

“I'm hoping that if they can get Manzambi, Steur and Toure in, then that's not the only three that they will bring in. Manzambi has had a really good World Cup. It was a shame he was injured against Colombia. But he looks like a really good talent. I hope his price is not going up with every good game he has.”

Ross Wilson comments

After signing Steur from Ajax in midweek, sporting director Ross Wilson said: “I’m thrilled that we’ve managed to conclude this deal so swiftly and make Sean a Newcastle United player.

“We’ve been aware of his talent for some time but so has the rest of European football, so it was vital that we were able to act diligently and give ourselves the best chance of getting Sean on board. It’s testament to the project we’re working on here that players like Sean are so keen to join.

“We‘re all really encouraged about working with Sean and I know how much Eddie enjoyed his first conversations with him. It left us all even more convinced of what Sean can bring to this group.

“Sean enters a fantastic environment for young players to develop and we’re incredibly excited about the progress we believe he can make here. It was great to welcome him and his family to Newcastle this week.”
