Curtis Jones was so startled to discover that a deal had been 'agreed' between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest that he addressed the matter directly on social media on Saturday. The 25-year-old has been heavily linked with an exit from Anfield this summer.

While Juventus, Inter Milan and Galatasaray have been linked with a move for the midfielder, the Tricky Trees have also entered the frame as potential suitors. Forest will be seeking additions to its midfield ranks, particularly after losing Elliot Anderson to Manchester City in a $156 million (£116M) transfer earlier this month.

And while one outlet, boasting more than 424,000 online followers, reported that the City Ground club had reached an initial agreement for Jones, the Merseyside-born player evidently has a different view.

Heading to the comments beneath an Instagram post revealing the 'deal', Jones simply posted a raised eyebrow emoji, suggesting he was equally in the dark.

That response swiftly garnered over 3,800 likes, with numerous supporters replying to Jones with enthusiasm. Alongside a flurry of laughing emojis from fellow users, one commented: "This guy is staying thank god," while another responded: "As surprised as we are."

The development comes amid ongoing uncertainty surrounding Jones' future at Anfield, with Andoni Iraola anticipated to bolster his first-team squad this summer as he looks to make an impact in both the Premier League and European competition, reports the Liverpool Echo.

Arne Slot could only manage a fifth-place finish in 2025/26, despite the board splashing nearly $600M on new arrivals for the league champions.

Liverpool is reportedly holding firm on a minimum asking price of $40M (£30M) for Jones, with Inter Milan reluctant to meet that figure despite its long-standing interest in the midfielder. That valuation reflects both the Reds' assessment of their homegrown star and the currently inflated transfer market, driven by high demand for midfield talent.

Jones proved a valuable squad member for Liverpool last season, accumulating 1,930 minutes across 34 Premier League outings, while also contributing a goal and two assists throughout the campaign.

Liverpool FC have launched their new home kit for the 2026/27, inspired by iconic adidas strip worn during the club's 1989/90 title-winning campaign.

However, with Iraola now at the helm, it remains to be seen whether the incoming head coach intends to feature the Englishman prominently in his plans for the season ahead. With Jones entering the final year of his deal at the club, Liverpool may well choose to cash in during the coming months rather than risk losing him on a free transfer next summer.

Former Reds striker Emile Heskey has weighed in on the situation, suggesting Jones needs regular first-team football to fulfil his potential. He said: "I would keep Curtis Jones as he gives you backup and options.

"It depends on whether he wants to continue as a secondary player, but he has the quality to break into the team. If he has international ambitions, he needs to be playing regularly.

"He won the Under-21 Euros and was one of the best players there. He's watched others springboard into the full team, but he needs regular football to do the same."

Heskey also raised concerns about the Reds' defensive lineup, given Ibrahima Konate's recent exit and speculation surrounding Virgil van Dijk's potential departure.

He continued: "Regarding center-backs, with Ibrahima Konate leaving, the club must strengthen that area. There has been talk about Virgil van Dijk leaving.

"That would surprise me considering he's been the leader and the one who helps everyone else. It would be a big shock if he were the one to go."
