'Regrets' - Nick Woltemade ‘not happy’ at Newcastle United as bold Germany quotes emerge

Nick Woltemade endured an indifferent debut season following his £64million move to Newcastle United.

Stuttgart legend Karlheinz Forster has claimed Nick Woltemade is unhappy at Newcastle United.

Speculation has surrounded the 24-year-old ever since his £64million move last summer. Officials at Bayern Munich were particularly vicious after the Magpies brought Woltemade to the Premier League.

He quickly silenced the noise with four goals in his first five top-flight fixtures. However, Woltemade’s confidence and form soon dipped, with Eddie Howe using him as a midfielder in the second half of the season.

‘Hasn’t settled’ - Stuttgart legend

Speaking to Bild, Stuttgart icon Forster suggested Woltemade has not settled on Tyneside - insisting he should have stayed in Germany for another year. He said: “Nick hasn’t really settled in at Newcastle yet, that has to be said. I already said last summer that I was sure it would have been better for his development to stay at Stuttgart for another year.

“In hindsight, I feel vindicated. Of course, he’s earning much more money in England, but perhaps he already regrets the move deep down.”

Nick Woltemade honesty

Earlier this summer, Woltemade admitted to being underwhelmed at his efforts last season - but remains confident he can turn the tide at St James’ Park. He said: "I'm expected to score or provide an assist in every game. But if I'm not playing in attack, it's much more difficult for me to get into dangerous scoring positions.

“I'm not happy with how things have gone in the past few months. Especially since my start at Newcastle was so strong. That raised expectations, including for myself. I moved to the Premier League at 23, the best league in the world. I've learned a lot this season.

"I've improved athletically. I can keep up with the tremendous pace. I can hold my own in challenges. Overall, it's been a step forward. That's why I have no doubts about Newcastle. I'll make my mark there."
