Newcastle United will not stand in the way of Jacob Murphy if he gets a good offer this summer to leave the club - with the winger's future on Tyneside plunged into doubt.
Chronicle Live understands that Murphy's agent has been contacted about a potential exit, and his nine-year stint at St James' Park could be about to come to an end.
That would be a blow for boyhood fan Murphy, but the 31-year-old is entering the final year of his deal, and this is the last chance Newcastle may get to cash in on him while his contractual situation offers some value.
Despite being linked with Everton over the weekend, Chronicle Live believes that no official bid has been placed at this stage, and it has been very much a case of agents sounding officials out on a price.
But with the process still early, Murphy could be offloaded as Newcastle look to trade strongly after sales for Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon. Murphy is not the only star at risk of being transferred with Joe Willock, Harvey Barnes and Nick Pope still deemed as squad players who could go.
For Murphy, there is no doubt his option would be to stay and extend his deal to finish off his career on Tyneside.
Speaking about his epic run at Newcastle, when asked to explain it earlier this year, Murphy said: "I might need a Netflix documentary for that, eight seasons is long. It’s just one of those stories of hard work, determination, grit, and never giving up.
"You’ll find that everyone has the same journey, just a different story. Everyone has hardships, they have successes, and it’s up and down all the way. But with the aspirations to do the best you can to make your family proud, your manager proud, your teammates proud, and the fans proud. You get there eventually."
Although, it was never straight-forward for Murphy and he could have been sold to Sheff Wed or West Brom after loans.
He said then: "I’ve always spoken about my Sheffield Wednesday loan, how important that was for me to rediscover myself and then from there coming and playing a little bit, I started to find my feet a bit more in the Premier League.
“Sir Edward then came in and you see what I became. Everyone’s always in the debt of Eddie because he’s just fantastic, brilliant and he’s squeezed all the juice out of everybody.
“You guys can see it! I’ve always had real keen attention to detail and he helped that evolution of me. I thought I saw the game pretty well, but then pictures became even more clear under his guidance.”
However, his run at Newcastle could be over as the club continue to stage a dramatic revamp.
