Leeds United eyeing World Cup centre-back with competition from Premier League rivals & Shea…

The Leeds United transfer latest state of play.

Leeds United are eyeing a World Cup international centre-back following Pascal Struijk’s departure but reportedly face competition from Premier League rivals.

Left-sided centre-back Struijk has sealed a summer switch to Brighton in a £20m deal and Leeds are interested in signing Sassuolo’s Bosnia and Herzegovina international centre-back Tarik Muharemovic.

Fabrizio Romano reported on Saturday evening that Leeds had ‘entered the race’ to sign Muharemovic and the YEP understands that Leeds are interested in the Sassuolo star but no more than that.

Romano added that both Bournemouth and Sunderland had called about the player over recent weeks and that the defender’s former club Juventus needed to make a decision due to maintaining a 50 per cent sell on clause.

Muharemovic, 23, who is six-foot-four, was part of the Bosnia and Herzegovina squad at this summer’s World Cup.

The centre-back played the full duration of the group stage opener 1-1 draw against Canada and again started the next game against Switzerland in which he was sent off for denying a goalscoring opportunity with ten minutes left.

After being suspended for the group stage finale against Qatar, Muharemovic returned to the starting line-up for the round of 32 clash against the USA and played the full duration of a 2-0 defeat.

Leeds are also interested in signing 22-year-old Southampton midfielder Shea Charles and a fresh report from the Mail has claimed that Leeds held positive talks with the Northern Ireland international star over the weekend and that a decision was nearing.

The YEP understands that there is no update in United’s quest to sign Charles and that talks are ongoing.
