Ruben Amorim 'likes' £17m Man United star, but 'no direct contacts' yet - report

AC Milan manager Ruben Amorim is interested in Manchester United defender Noussair Mazraoui, according to journalist Matteo Moretto.

This is not the first time Amorim has been linked with a United player since taking charge at Milan.

He reportedly approved the Rossoneri’s interest in midfielder Mason Mount, although the claim was eventually downplayed.

Moretto now reports that Amorim likes Mazraoui, but there is nothing concrete yet regarding a potential transfer.

“There have been no direct contacts between the clubs, but what I can say is that Mazraoui is certainly a player Amorim values,” he told Fabrizio Romano’s Italian YouTube channel.

“It remains to be seen whether, during this transfer window, which is still a long way from closing, he will become a genuine target for Milan.

“For now, all I can say is that the coach likes him and appreciates Mazraoui’s qualities. We’ll see afterwards whether there is anything more to discuss.”

The Moroccan featured regularly during Amorim’s reign as United manager. He featured in 49 matches across all competitions, starting 44 of them.

Mazraoui’s versatility across the defensive line makes him well suited for Amorim’s preferred 3-4-2-1 formation.

However, United are unlikely to listen to offers for the Morocco international in the current transfer window.

Mazraoui, who joined United from Bayern Munich in a deal worth up to £17 million in the summer of 2024, has been a good signing for the club.

He has reportedly been regarded internally ‘as one of United’s best signings in recent years‘. He has made 77 appearances across all competitions, chipping in with three assists.

Mazraoui’s versatility would be a valuable asset for Michael Carrick’s side as they seek to compete on multiple fronts next season.
