Leeds United‘s Gabriel Gudmundsson is refusing to close the door on a potential move to Chelsea this summer.
Chelsea are looking for a new left-back, after selling Marc Cucurella to Real Madrid in June.
On June 24th, Sport Witness covered claims from Sweden of Chelsea considering signing the Leeds United player.
A day later, the Sweden international said the Chelsea links are “a sign” he’s on the right track.
He said: “Of course, it’s a sign that you’re doing something right, but obviously all my focus is on the national team right now, so that’s all I can say.”
Leeds United man again responds to Chelsea links
Saturday’s edition of Hallandsposten published a detailed interview with the 27-year-old to discuss several topics, including the Chelsea links.
Xabi Alonso’s side haven’t made advances to sign the Sweden international. However, that hasn’t stopped the newspaper from asking about the reported interest from the Blues.
Gabriel Gudmundsson didn’t close the door, but made clear he’s happy.
“I haven’t had a focus on it because there has been so much with Leeds, the World Cup and then I have become a father now so I have really zoned out from that part of football,” he said.
“But it’s nice that they see me as an alternative and it’s a sign that something good has been done, then we’ll see what happens but I’m happy where I am.”
Happy with first season at Leeds United
Daniel Farke’s side signed the fullback from Lille last summer and he was first choice left-back last season.
Gabriel Gudmundsson played 2,936 minutes from 35 matches for Leeds United. When discussing his debut season, the player heaped praise on the English club’s supporters.
“Everything is so professional. We have enjoyed ourselves since the first second we got there so we are very happy with the choice and are looking forward to what is to come,” Gudmundsson explained.
“Hand on heart I can say that the Leeds fans are the best in England and they have supported us in a really good way this season. I don’t think you understand how big the club is until you are in it.”
